Result: premium diesel worth the extra as the S Max was more responsive, had more grunt and in similar driving conditions was at least 10% more fuel efficient. Considering how carefully the car was driven, yet was unable to crack 40 mpg, the official fuel consumption figures for this "re-engineered" engine are far more than just poor.

Towing, empty, city, highway got maybe 13ifh max one time. Honestly I wouldn't expect 1-2mpg more max from mods.
