It is by far my most favorite AC game of all time simply because of the setting - Egypt - and the story - the origin of the Hidden Ones, the proto-assassin organization and ancestor to the namesake of the franchise. As a kid, I loved Egypt. As a grown up who is a mortician, I have an even deeper love somehow for Egypt.
If you are running across the map, sure horse could save you more time. Most of the differences we perceive in speed are actually the differences in animations/camera view. It's like how some games, when you hold sprint they put you in "sprint view" where the edges of the screen warp. It seems like you are going faster.
